shopping & church

Wasn’t much to write about yesterday as we spent the whole day shopping, firstly into a store called ‘The Good Guys’ where we got a massive fridge freezer with ice makerJ , tumble dryer, washing machine and TV, and got given a 25% discount without even asking for itJ ! We then headed for a large retail park with IKEA and spent ages wandering around getting more confused and more tired by the minute and eventually ended up with the 3 beds we needed but nothing elseL, however on the plus side as we still have no debit cards or access to our money we were able to just put down deposits and pay this week and also get all of it delivered on Wednesday, which is fantastic (as although this motel room is lovely, the beds are awful and we now all have backacheL).
Today we went to Forest Lake Baptist Church and were very impressed (although less so with the start time of 9.30am), it was so friendly, has loads of stuff going on for both adults and youth. There were probably about 140 people there, including the kids, 12 in the music group; they have 3 pastors, and a number of Liverpool supporters!!  We still need to go to some other churches but so far was very impressed and a good start worth getting up that early for.
We returned via another shopping plaza to find socks for the kids for school tomorrow and got some lunch in the food court, did some shopping for their packed lunches,  and then to a B&Q equivalent and chose a patio table and chairs which we’ll order tomorrow when we get some money. This afternoon the kids have been in the swimming pool and I’ve spent the afternoon, washing, ironing and labelling uniform.
We are still amazed how friendly everybody is, but they don’t half moan about the rain... but it’s warm rain, like being in a shower, they’ve no idea....

  1. The Good Guys will generally give a discount if you get multiple items and/or pay cash (not buy on credit), but you have to ask normally! Maybe they didn't want to take advantage of you as you are clearly new to the country and didn't know you could ask.

The Good Guys are famed for it, but you can talk down the price on big items in most places, especially if you are getting more than one thing or there is another store you could go to that also sells the same thing. You can get them to better the price of the other.
